Face of Australia – Iron Ore Molten Metallics

Face of Australia Iron Ore molten metallics nail polish

The lucky last polish from my previous Face of Australia polish haul. I haven’t had the chance to bring out my polishes to play due to work but seeing as I have this week off, I thought I should finish swatching the Face of Australia Molten Metallics polishes 🙂

So..Iron Ore has a black base with bits of rainbow shimmer throughout. It’s a nice alternative to the usual flat black polishes.

I did my usual 2 coats but this is without a top coat. Without a top coat, it’s a bit flat. Not too matte but it isn’t shiny either. It applied ok. Not as bad as troublesome as White Gold was but not as perfect as Flaming Lava. Somewhere in between.

OPI Melon of Troy

I love the name of this nail polish 🙂

OPI Melon of Troy

OPI Melon of Troy is a frosty, slightly shimmer apricot shade. Being a frost, it means the finish is kind of streaky but it’s nothing I can’t deal with.

Boost Your Dry Lips With These Bloom x Boost Lip Balms

Boost and Bloom – 2 iconic Aussie brands have joined forces to create 6 lip balms which are representative of Boost’s popular drinks – Tropical Storm, Mango Tango, Strawberry Squeeze,  Berry Bang, Banana Buzz and Watermelon Crush.

First of all – they smell amazing! Like Lip Smackers but for adults. They all smell different depending on which flavour you got & they smell ‘real’. None of those fake fruit smells lol.

Anyways, after hearing about these, I dragged myself to Myer (Parramatta, NSW) and found myself at the Bloom stand where these were. Unfortunately, apart from the 2 I purchased, each and every Bloom x Boost lip balm had been opened already and I did not want to purchase something which had been opened previously just in case. Since then, I have been on the look out for the other flavours but can’t seem to find them. If anyone sees any unopened Strawberry Squeeze, Berry Bang, Banana Buzz and Watermelon Crush, please let me know!! Would really appreciate it as I only was able to get Tropical Storm and Mango Tango.

What I love about these lip balms, apart from their sweet fruity scent, is that they don’t come in your typical round cylindrical packaging. Instead they’re like an oval shape which is the perfect shape. Other lip balm companies – TAKE NOTE.

Bloom x Boost lip balms

These lip balms are very moisturising thanks to ingredients such as jojoba oil and beeswax. Also, they don’t feel ‘that’ waxy. Like, you know it’s there without it actually ‘being there’. I don’t even know if that makes sense or not!

These wonderful lip balms are available from selected Myer and David Jones stores as well as some Boost Juice Bars and of course, Bloom’s Flagship Store (in Melb!). These retail for $6.95 which is a BARGAIN but there’s an offer for 2 for $10 (til end of July) if you sign up on Bloom’s website (click here).

Brand Spotlight Series – NARS #8

Lucky last.

NARS Malibu multiple

NARS Malibu multiple.

They say…

The original multi-purpose stick for eyes, cheeks, lips and body. Its unique, creamy formula blends effortlessly to provide sheer color for creating shimmering accents, contours or dynamic highlights on all skin tones. Creates perfect, glowing complexions and is conveniently designed for failproof application.

Pinkish brown.

I say…

It is a deep red wine colour with hints of plum & brown tones. It does have some subtle gold shimmer but this is hardly noticeable when applied. In the tube, it looks daunting & scary. I mean when I first saw it, I was just kind of like WTF? What a dark shade. How would you ever wear it? Lo & behold, I started experimenting with NARS Malibu multiple & found that it is quite a universal shade afterall.

On my medium-tone Asian olive skin (about NC30-35 or thereabouts), it, surprisingly, gave my cheeks a healthy rosy flush.

I applied it by dabbing NARS Malibu multiple on my cheeks & then blending it with my fingers. It stays dewy & glowy & doesn’t just disappear & mattify throughout the day. In terms of wear, it lasts all day on me!

I’ve also tried wearing NARS Malibu multiple on my lips. It dries down to a powder-like finish on my lips so I find that I have to use a bit of clear lip balm so they don’t look flaky.

As for wearing it as an eyeshadow, I haven’t tried as I tend to steer away from shades like this on my eyes. Makes me look scary lol.

Natural light

NARS Malibu multiple is sold as a multi-use product but I find that this particular shade works best as a blusher.

These multiples are freaking huge & the price tag reflects this. For $39USD/$79AUD, you get a whooping 0.50 oz/14.2g of product & seeing as you only use a little bit each time, this thing will last you a lifetime (or two…)

Brand Spotlight Series – NARS #7

Today, we’re moving away from NARS blushes & having a look at my lone NARS lipstick in Dolce Vita.

NARS Dolce Vita lipstick

I don’t have a lot of experience with NARS lipsticks so I can’t say much – what I’m posting is based on my experience with this one & only lipstick shade.

They say …

This sheer dusty rose lipstick is frequently voted the most “universally flattering” lipstick shade by industry professionals.

Dusty rose which mimics the natural blush of lips.

I say …

According to NARS, I own another cult favourite 😛

NARS Dolce Vita lipstick is essentially my MLBB shade. It gives my lips just that tiny hint of colour without making me look overdone.

NARS Dolce Vita lipstick

I like the NARS lipstick formula for Dolce Vita as it is quite moisturising. According to their website, this is due to the vitamin E content which is nourishing & non-drying. Also, NARS Dolce Vita lipstick is part of their sheer lipstick range meaning that the “long lasting color pigments have been suspended in this translucent formula to provide a sheer, natural tint” and that it does!

NARS Dolce Vita lipstick

The great thing about NARS Dolce Vita lipstick is that it’s buildable. You don’t want to look overdone? Not a problem. A swipe of this gives your lips some colour but not too much. Want to change it to a dramatic lip look? Sure thing – another swipe or two & you’re good to go!

I also think it’s a great beginners’ red lipstick. It’s not too out there that a beginner to red lips would feel self-conscious about in public.

Brand Spotlight Series – NARS #6

Now, this last one isn’t technically a blush per say but..whatevs.

I present to you, my HG highlighter – NARS Albatross highlighting blush powder.

NARS Albatross highlighting powder blush

They say…

Luminous glow.

This truly versatile highlighting product may be worn on its own or layered over other color products for added highlight and dimension. The soft shimmering color will add instant radiance to any complexion, and may be used on the face and body.

I say…

In the pan, NARS Albatross highlighting blush powder is deceptively boring. White with shimmer. Yawn.

Natural light

However, once applied, it gives you that elusive ‘glow from within’ that you’ve been searching for. Okay, maybe not you YOU but me! It gives me the glow I’ve been on the hunt for. It has this amazing warm yellow golden glow that I just love. The shimmer is very finely milled & this contributes to that glow as it doesn’t look greasy & you don’t look like a disco ball 😉

Natural light

Please note that this was swatched heavily & obviously when you apply this, it’d be with a much lighter hand!

Brand Spotlight Series – NARS #5

We’re nearing the end of my brand spotlight series on NARS. Yippee!

The fifth blush in this series is NARS Torrid blush.

NARS Torrid blush

They say…

Coral with shimmer.

I say…

NARS Torrid blush is very similar to NARS Orgasm blush. It may be a shade or two darker than Nars Orgasm blush. In comparison to NARS Orgasm blush, NARS Torrid blush is much much more pigmented & the golden shimmer is quite subtle. It is much more of a true coral as opposed to NARS Orgasm’s peachy pink coral.

NARS Torrid would work very well on those with darker skintones as it’s pigmentation is unbelievable! I use a duo-fibre brush similar to MAC’s 188 brush to apply this.

Natural light

NARS Torrid, Orgasm & Deep Throat are all essentially from the same colour family with different nuances here & there & with different amounts of peach v pink in each. I will have a comparison swatch picture posted up for you in my NARS blush round-up post.
